Büyükada is the largest of the Princes' Islands 9 islands. It's also the most popular. We took a day trip out to the island while in Istanbul and explored it by walking and cycling all around. ⭐ BUYUKADA ISLAND TRAVEL TIPS ⭐ ▸ There are numerous bike rental shops on the island. We recommend checking your brakes before zipping off with your bike as it is a hilly island. The biggest of Istanbul Islands is büyükada with thousands of inhabitants and many visitors everyday. There are multiple ferries from Yenikapı, Kadıköy and Bostancı that work every half an hour and makes it easy to reach Büyükada. Cars and other fuel-based vehicles are not allowed in these islands and recently horse carriages were banned and made the island more calm and peaceful. I read a lot of negative reviews about this servís but I didn’t have any troubles with booking, payment and anything else. But before the reservation I wrote by WhatsApp to our hotel and ask if I can trust this website and after my booking our hotel confirmed my reservation. You can check the ferry schedule on Google Maps you need to click on the ferry port and then choose your destination. Or on the shipping companies website like: turyol.com Sahirhatlari.istanbul, mavimaara.net Check you bicycle especially break! before you rent it!! Walk with me 👉 🤍 My walk map 👉 🤍 Bağdat Avenue (Turkish: Bağdat Caddesi, literally Baghdad Avenue) is one of the most important high streets on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, Turkey. It runs approximately 14 km (8.7 mi) from Maltepe in the east to Kadıköy in the west, almost paralleling the coastline of the Sea of Marmara. The most important part of the street runs 6 km (3.7 mi) from Bostancı to Kızıltoprak within the district of Kadıköy. Bağdat Avenue is usually seen as the counterpart of Istiklal Avenue on the European side of the city in terms of its importance and glamour although it lacks the fine heritage of historic buildings to be found on Istiklal Avenue with almost all its architecture modern. Bağdat Caddesi mainly runs through middle and upper-class residential areas. A one-way street for traffic, it is lined with old plane trees and flanked by a series of shopping malls, boutiques and elegant shops offering world-famous brands, as well as by restaurants serving international and local cuisine, pubs and cafes, luxury car dealers and banks. Most of the shops are open seven days a week, including Sunday afternoons. Heading westwards, Bağdat Avenue runs through: Cevizli, Maltepe, İdealtepe, Küçükyalı, Altıntepe, Bostancı, Çatalçeşme, Suadiye, Şaşkınbakkal, Erenköy, Caddebostan, Göztepe, Çiftehavuzlar, Selamiçeşme, Feneryolu and Kızıltoprak. The busiest stretches of Bağdat Avenue run between Suadiye and Caddebostan, where most of the shopping malls and fashion stores are located. Bağdat Avenue offers a variety of transport options including buses, dolmuşes, taxis and rentable scooters. Within walking distance of the avenue there are seabus (high-speed catamaran ferry) terminals in Kadıköy and Bostancı. The Marmaray railway running just north of the avenue serves Bostancı which has a quay for commuter ferries, which connect the Asian side of the city with the European side, as well as for ferries to the nearby Princes' Islands. History Bağdat Avenue started life as a road connecting Constantinople with Anatolia during the Byzantine and later the Ottoman periods, when it was used for trade and military purposes. It acquired its name after the recapture of Baghdad by Sultan Murad IV in 1638. However, the original road started from Üsküdar and passed through Haydarpaşa Meadows, joining what became the later route in Kızıltoprak. The Ottomans built fountains with namazgahs (open-air areas set aside for prayer) along the road to serve travellers arriving to or departing from the city. Some of the neighbourhoods along Bağdat Avenue are still named after these fountains (Turkish: çeşme), such as Söğütlüçeşme (Willow Fountain), Selamiçeşme, and Çatalçeşme (Forked Fountain). During the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1876–1909), some pashas, high officials and wealthy traders purchased land around Bağdat Avenue and erected luxurious chalet-like wooden mansions, a few of which still exist today. Before World War I, the avenue was paved with cobblestones, and carriages were used for transportation. In the early years of the Republican era, the original cobblestoned avenue was covered with asphalt, and a tram line was constructed between Kadıköy and Bostancı. Until the 1960s, the coastal area close to Bağdat Avenue served as a summer resort primarily for the city's upper and middle classes, who mainly lived on the European side of İstanbul closer to their businesses. Following the opening of the Bosphorus Bridge in 1973, these low-rise summer houses were pulled down in favour of new high-rise condominiums and some suburbs along Bağdat Avenue developed into particularly desirable residential areas. Attractions There are several large public parks just off Bağdat Caddesi. These include Özgürlük (Freedom) Park in Selamiçeşme and Göztepe Park which offers wonderful displays of tulips in April and of roses in June. The small mosques along Bağdat Caddesi only date from the late 19th century. Most prominent are the Zühtü Paşa Mosque in Kızıltoprak (1885) ad the Galip Paşa Mosque in Caddebostan (1889). In the back streets of Göztepe there is a fine Toy Museum, signposted by lampposts in the shape of giraffes. Overlooking the Sea of Marmara at Caddebostan stands the magnificent, if abandoned, Ragip Paşa Mansion, a work of August Jasmund in 1906. The island is accessible by Şehir Hatları ferries from Eminönü and Kabataş on the European side of Istanbul and from Kadıköy and Bostancı on the Asian side of the city. Geography Büyükada is 4.3 km (2.6 miles) long and 1.3 km (0.8 miles) wide. The centre of the island is dominated by two peaks. The one nearest to the ferry landing is the Hill of Jesus (Turkish: İsa Tepesi), which is164m (538ft) high. The second is the Great Hill (Turkish: Yücetepe) which is 202m (663ft) high. The island has several small strips of sand and pebble beach too, the most popular being Yörük Ali Plajı near Dilburnu. Most development on the island is on its northern side with the south still largely wooded. History Byzantine era During the period of Byzantine rule the Princes' Islands became a place where rulers founded churches and monasteries but where they also dumped their enemies to prevent them from plotting to harm them. The Byzantine Emperor Justin II was the first of the rulers who is known to have built a convent (as well as a palace) on Prinkipo in C.E. 569.[2] This was expanded by Empress Eirene and soon began to serve as a place of exile for the Byzantine empresses Irene, Euphrosyne, Theophano, Zoe and Anna Dalassena. Later history Prinkipo was one of the last places that the Ottomans managed to seize from the Byzantine. It then settled down as a sleepy backwater until 1846 when the first ferry service made it easily accessible from mainland Constantinople/Istanbul whereupon it became an increasingly popular summer retreat for wealthier city residents. Most of its Greek residents left in the population exchange of 1923 or after the pogrom of 1955 and the expulsion order of 1966. Many of the Armenians were driven out in 1924. Just a few Jews still live on the island. At one time iron mining took place on the island in the area now called Maden (Mine). International tourism to the Princes' Islands was relatively slow to take off but by 2015 was becoming the dominant economic factor. Transport on the island Until 2020 the only transportation on Büyükada (as on the other inhabited Princes' islands) had been horse-drawn phaetons (fayton). However, the explosion of tourism on the island had made this increasingly unsustainable and, under pressure from animal-rights activists, the decision was made to replace the horses with electric vehicles, bringing to an end a tradition that had made the islands unique in Turkey. Vlogul de astăzi este despre una dintre locațiile noastre preferate din Istanbul! 🕊 O locație puțin neașteptată am spune noi, și anume o insulă. Este un loc cu o atmosferă și o energie aparte, diferite de ce am întâlnit până acum în agitatul Istanbul! 🇹🇷 Localnicii spun adesea despre aceast loc că ar reprezenta vechea imagine a orașului iar cei nostalgici vin adesea pentru a-și aminti de vechile timpuri. Noi nu cunoaștem vechiul Istanbul și ne-am îndrăgostit de un oraș aglomerat, autentic și efervescent. Suntem fascinați de identitatea sa din prezent și nu am schimba nimic însă putem înțelege acest sentiment de nostalgie. Büyükada este cu adevărat fermecătoare prin liniște, culoare și bun gust. Este cea mai mare insula dintre cele 9 și se întinde pe o suprafată de peste 5400km pătrați. În anul 2009 au fost declarați aproximativ 7000 de locuitori. Pe durata verii acest număr crește considerabil întrucât foarte mulți locuitori ai Istanbulului aleg să petreacă acest sezon pe insulă, departe de tumultul orașului. O excursie de o zi pe această insulă este o expriență plăcută, încă de la plecare debutând cu o plimbare pe marea Marmara de aproximativ jumătate de oră! İstanbul 'un 9 adasından en büyüğü olan Büyükada, Bizans döneminde sürgün yeri ve manastır olarak kullanılmış, 17 Nisan 1453 yılında Kaptan-ı Derya Baltaoğlu Süleyman Bey komutasındaki Osmanlı donanması tarafından fethedilmiş ve Osmanlı topraklarına katılmıştır. II. Meşrutiyet'in ilanından sonra II. Abdülhamid bazı nazır ve paşalarını Büyükada'da ikamet ettirmiş ve devlet ricalinden olan bu zatların Büyükada'da yaptırdıkları konak ve yalılarla ada zengin ve gösterişli bir görünüm kazanmıştır. Stalin dönemi Rusya'sından sürgün edilen, Lenin döneminin önde gelen siyasetçilerinden olan Troçki'de Büyükada'da dört yıl bulunmuştur. 1920'li yıllarda Rusya'daki iç savaştan kaçarak İstanbul'a gelen on binlerce Beyaz Rus'un bir kısmının Büyükada'ya yerleştirilmesiyle birlikte ise; adanın kozmopolit yapısı daha da güçlenmiş ve adanın kültür harmonisi bir çok sahada farklı bir tat yakalamıştır. 1930 yılında adadaki Rum Mezarlığı çevresinde bulunan, Büyük İskender'in babası II. Filip'e ait toplam 207 sikkeden meydana gelen Büyükada definesinin bulunması ve İstanbul Arkeoloji Müzesi koleksiyonuna dâhil edilmesi Büyükada tarihinin derinliğini gözler önüne sermiştir. Büyükada'nın en önemli ibadet mekânları, İsa Tepesi'nde bulunan Hiristos Manastırı, adalı Ortodoksların büyük ayinlerini tertip ettikleri Kumsal semtinde bulunan Ayios Dimitrios Kilisesi, yine Kumsal semtinde bulunan Musevi Sinagogu ve II. Abdülhamid tarafından 1895 yılında inşa ettirilen Hamidiye Camii'dir. Ayrıca; Ermeni ve Latinlere ait iki kilise, Ortodokslar tarafından inşa ettirilen diğer kiliseler ve Müslümanların adaya yerleşmeye başlamalarıyla birlikte adadaki yerini alan camiler göze çarpan diğer ibadet mekânlarıdır. Bu ibadet mekânlarının yanı sıra adada Ortodokslarca kutsal su kaynakları olarak inanılan Ayios Konstantinos, Ayia Fotini, Ayia Paraskevi ve Ayios Yeorios adlı tarihi Ayazmalar adanın dikkat çeken diğer mekânları arasında gösterilebilir. Büyükada'nın yerleşimi iki mahalle üzerine kurulmuştur. Bu mahalleler Nizam Mahallesi ve Maden Mahallesi'dir. Dik yokuşların bir hayli fazla olduğu adanın iki önemli tepesi; güney tarafta Yorgi Tepesi (Yüce Tepe) ile kuzey tarafta Hristos (İsa) Tepesidir. Adanın batı cephesinde 500 m genişliğindeki Dil Burnu uzanır ve Dil Burnu'nun kuzeyinde Nizam koyu, güneyinde ise Yörükali plajı bulunur. Mavi ve yeşili buluşturan Hem İstanbul'da yer alması ve hem de bir sahil kasabası sükunetine sahip olan Büyükada bu özellikleriyle pek çok insanın yerleşme hayalleri kurduğu bir yer haline gelmiştir. Ulaşımın kolaylaşması, vapur ve motor seferlerinin artması daha fazla günü birlik ziyaretçi ağırlamasını sağlamıştır. Ulaşımın fayton ve bisiklet gibi motorsuz araçlarla yapılması doğasını ve doğallığını korumasına yardımcı olmaktadır.Bence sorun; atların çok çalışması, fazla yük taşıması, fayton durağındaki idrar ve dışkı kokusu, Adalar belediyesi buna bir çözüm getirmeli...
