This is the all-new INEOS Grenadier! Now we know what some of you are thinking - it looks like a classic Land Rover Defender! And sure, it might do, but we assure you that this is a totally different car. If anything, this is probably the car that classic Land Rover fans wish was released instead of the latest Defender! Well once you take a step inside, you'll realise (you guessed it...) that there are some more similarities to the old Defender! You’ll find a load of physical buttons on the centre console, while there's also a large infotainment screen up top. When it comes to price, the Grenadier starts from £53,000 for the standard passenger vehicle, so there’s no denying that it’s good value for money! I have finally got to drive INEOS Grenadier. Is it a rival for the new Defender or is it a disappointment ? I drove to Wales to put the INEOS Grenadier through its paces both on the road and in the beautiful hills of the Glanusk Estate. This is a project I have watched carefully since it was announced so it was great to finally drive the car. I am currently running a new Land Rover Defender 90 as a long termer so it was interesting to see if the INEOS Grenadier would stack up. Henry Catchpole takes the Ineos Grenadier Off-road to test if it just as good on the dirt as the car it so closely resembles. In recent years, the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Wagon have slightly shifted their focus to double up as status symbols, which has left a gap in the market for a solely utility focused off-roader. The Ineos Grenadier is an homage to the those cars but in more than just appearance. It is built using a body-on-frame construction and has three locking differentials which suggests that it will be a very capable off-roading/overlanding vehicle. Ineos propose this as work-first vehicle that is all business. But will it fill the gap left behind by the Defender and Mercedes G-Wagon of old? The Grenadier is powered by BMWs ubiquitous and reliable B58 and B57 engines (petrol and diesel respectively) mated to a ZF 8-speed torque converter automatic. Solid axles, permanent 4WD with a true center differential, no-compromises off-road suspension and a big, boxy cabin are what you find on the Grenadier, which for me at least makes this the ultimate overlander. It may not rock crawl like a 2-door Wrangler, but the rest of the Grenadier is all kinds of hotness. The Ineos Grenadier, here in the US, is an enigma. From our research, this is one of the first reviews of the Grenadier in the states. The one we drove today arrived just 3 weeks prior to our test drive. Technically a preproduction model, but near as makes no difference to being complete. We both got the opportunity to drive in it today. Michael from Ineos who was featured in our drives, was super helpful, and let us do pretty much whatever we wanted with it. As we both found, while the steering is not something we're used to, the overall experience is pure cool. The ride and handling are great for it's size, and the whole vibe screams "rugged". The presence of the Grenadier cannot be understated. No one has seen this thing, many of them thought it was a modded defender, others thought a G-Wagen. Once we told them it wasn't any of those things, the curiosity kicked in and people started swarming it. We suspect that before these become common at soccer practice, these will draw at least a small crowd were ever you go. Leave any feedback or cars you’d like to see in the comments below. After 9000 kilometers in some the hotest and remotest parts of Australia's outback this is a an unbiased summary of my thoughts on the Ineos Grenadier Trialmaster.. Travelling on many unsealed or unmade outback tracks combined with long stretches of highway kilometres it was a good test for this new four wheel drive vehicle. I don't focus on the off road capability of the Grenadier as I believe it is well established as one of the most capable available. I do however look at those thing I think could have been done a little better. And I find a big surprises underneath the vehicle!!!
